Global Solar Installs 22-kW Solar System in Roseville, Calif.
TUCSON, Ariz., Feb 3, 2003 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Global Solar Energy Inc., recently completed the design, installation, and startup of a solar photovoltaic generating system for the City of Roseville, Calif.
The city took advantage of available roof space by mounting the 22-kilowatt system on the south-facing sloped roof of its new Fire Station #6. In its design, Global Solar utilized a mounting system clamped to the standing seams of the fire station's metal roof, negating the need for any roof penetrations.
"This design and mounting method reduced our material and labor costs, and alleviated any worries the city had about potential future leaks from penetrations," Global Solar President Michael Gering said.
Electricity generated by the system reduces the fire station's power consumption from the electric grid, especially during peak summer months when air conditioning loads are high. The system's array of solar modules also reduces heat buildup in the fire station by capturing solar energy that would otherwise hit the metal roof. The resulting reduction in temperature within the fire station lessens the need for air conditioning, thus lowering the city's electric bills even further.
